美国大学面试及美国大学本科转学问题讨论

美国大学面试在申请过程中究竟起到多大的作用?这是一个依学校而异的问题。总体来说，面试做的好不代表一定会被录取，但如果美国大学面试效果很差很可能会给申请结果带来负面的影响。

为了让学生对大学面试有更多的了解，纽约艾利整理了众多美国本科留学面试问题，并附有回答参考，希望对美国出国的学生们有所帮助。

1、What are your favorite activities?

　　在美国大学面试题中What are your favorite activities?是一个经常会被提到的问题，这是大学给你一个机会，让你去highlight你的1-3个activities and demonstrate their importance.在面试中，如果你仅仅list off several activities without showing why they are important and meaningful，这不算一个好的response.

对于这道美国大学面试题，真正好的回答标准是，学生列举

three activities that he/she loves the most and why they are meaningful and how that makes him/her a good match for the school. 比如这个回答 "Throughout high school, I have tried to get involved in several activities so that I could find my passions. Early on, I realized that swimming was something that I love to do. I have been on the team for all 4 years of high school. I just absolutely love being in the water and what is unique about swimming is that it is both an individual sport and a team sport. I get to challenge myself to be the best and still also contribute to a team goal. I have also been taking guitar lessons for 2 years now and am starting a band. I am not very good yet, but it is just a really great way to relax and I love music. Finally, I have been working on an independent research project where I am trying to determine how light gets filtered through the optic nerve. One day, I hope to become an ophthalmologist and I have been working with a professor at Stanford in his lab. We came up with the project together and I will be entering it into the Siemens Competition. "

2、自我介绍

　　美国大学面试过程中少不了自我介绍这一环节，而且一般都在面试开始时，美国大学面试官会让学生做一个简短的自我介绍。以下是五则自我介绍的范文。

　　(1)面试自我介绍范文good morning, my name is Vic, it is really a great honor to have this opportunity for a interview, I would like to answer whatever you may raise, and I hope I can make a good performance today, eventually enroll in this prestigious university in September.

　 (2)面试自我介绍范文now I will introduce myself briefly, I am 21 years old, born in Jilin province, northeast of china, and I am currently a senior student at Beijing university. My major is packaging engineering, and I will receive my bachelor degree after my graduation in June. In the past 4 years, I spend most of my time on study. I have passed CET4/6 with a ease. and I have acquired basic knowledge of packaging and publishing both in theory and in practice. Besides, I have attend.

小贴士：自我介绍并不是意味着你要把所有的信息都告诉面试官，而且展现出是什么品质让你与众不同 ("Tell me about yourself" does not mean tell me everything. Just tell me what makes you the best.)

3、What are your three greatest strengths?

　其实这个问题是给你一个机会说明你的与众不同。你的回答应该是尽可能体现出你是有独特思想同时对自己有着清醒认识的人。与别的问题不同，这个问题是绝对不应该出现“I am not sure”这个说法的。你必须能够清楚而有条理地陈述两到三个自身的特点，并且最好能够给出一两个具体事例支持你的说法。

比如我们一个获得常春藤大学录取的学生是这样回答这个问题的：

"My first strength is my compassion and leadership. I have organized a volunteer group and some charity activities. …… My second strength is my creative thinking. I have participated in China Youth Creative Competition and received the first prize. And bala bala…"

4、Why This College?

　　在面试过程中，“为什么选择这所学校”是最常见的问题，学生一定要根据自身的情况结合学校的特点来回答。在我们做面试培训的时候，多数学生给我们的答案是：“因为排名不错，学校地理位置也不错，所以我选择它。”虽然这很有可能是事实，但如果你要申请的是顶尖学校，需要跟许多实力很强的优秀学生竞争，这样的答案就显得太一般了。我曾经遇到过一个非常优秀的学生，同时申请了包括普林斯顿大学和耶鲁大学在内的几所前10的学校，最终也获得了其中一所前10的学校的录取和讲学金。但这个学生在普林斯顿大学面试的时候，就回答得不好。他们的对话是这样的：

　　AO:Why Princeton?

　　Applicant:To get me prepare for my dream. Because Princeton cultivates leaders in science and focus on undergraduate education. It provides many financial support for students. Students have many opportunities to get financial aid.

　　AO: What can you do for Princeton if admitted?

　　Applicant: I am talented in Physics. I can contribute my talent in the college of Physics. And I wish to be an admission interviewer like you.

　　这个学生在面试之前并没有做好准备，他在回答为什么选择普林斯顿时给面试官的感觉是非常注重奖学金，而第二个问题说想成为面试官完全是画蛇添足，因为成为面试官和他到普林斯顿学习物理是没有联系的。相比之下，这个学生在耶鲁大学面试的时候，就发挥得不错了。以下是学生回忆的答案：“First of all, based on what I learnt about Yale, there are five presidents from Yale. I think Yale is a good place help me develop my leadership. I have been the class monitor for more than two years, …… Secondly, Yale dedicates to integrating science and art. …… I believe that the education in Yale will prepare me to be a leader in a field combination of science and art.”

在这个回答里，学生对学校做了一点研究，从了解耶鲁培养了不少领袖人物，到学校致力于把科学与艺术有效结合的教育目的，分析自己哪些方面是符合学校培养人才的宗旨的。Why this college这个问题的重点是要了解被面试的学生是否已经对该大学做了很深入地研究，学生在表现他对这个学校充满热情，渴望了解更多的同时，要巧妙地用适当的事例体现出他具有哪些特点对于学校而言是strong match的。选择具体的事例说明你对学校提供的某个Program很感兴趣往往是一个不错的选择。

可见，这个问题的重点是要显示出被面试的学生已经对该大学做了很深入地研究，和他/她对于学校而言是一个strong match.

　　如果该学生给了一个generic response that can be applied to any school，这就不成其为一个好的答案。比方说，人家问你：Why Columbia? 你的回答是：“Columbia has strong academics and is in the middle of New York City”，就太泛泛而论了。

　　比较好的回答是，这个学生给了一个

response that shows some level of research but was not specific about why the school is a good fit for him/her. 就好像这样的回答：

”Columbia has very strong science programs and I want to study biology. I could also participate in lab work. There is also so much for students to do because of the many on-campus clubs and organizations. ”

　　纽约艾利认为，理想的答案是去show这个学生的极强的enthusiasm for the school，并且给一些specific examples of what the school has to offer and how that directly connects with the students interests. 我如果这样回答，你觉得怎么样？“I love Columbia for so many reasons but the top three are: Access to Research, the Core Curriculum, and an Active Student Body. I hope to pursue my passion for science by working with Dr. Smith, who is working on Sleep Deprivation in Kids. Columbia’s unique core curriculum also really stands out to me. While I want to study in the sciences, literature is my second passion. I want to study Socrates, Emerson and Bronte with the best. And finally, I want to surround myself with an intellectually invigorating student body. As an active member of my school community, I want to get involved in college. At Columbia, the NY Outreach Program will allow me to continue my love of working with young disadvantaged kids. ”

5、Why Your Major?

　因为美国大学学制设置的特点和专业的选择的自由性，招办人员一般都很清楚地知道，大多数高中生进入大学后，很可能会改变专业，但是，他们仍希望通过这一个问题能看出这个学生是否对自己选择的专业已经有一些基本的认识，也希望通过这个问题使学生还没有进入到学校的时候就已经认真思考过专业的选择.学生在回答这个问题的时候除了能够说出一点对这个专业的认识，最好能够说明自己是怎样喜欢这个专业，希望通过在这个学校学习该专业获得什么样的结果。如果学生在回答“Why This College?”提到了选择该校是因为该校在某专业的教育特别突出，那么，面试官一般就会跳过“Why Your Major”这个问题了。

　比如有一个申请宾夕法尼亚大数学专业的学生，她的答案是这样的：

　”Mathematics is most likely what I will major in. I have got distinction award in AMC. And have received many honors for Math in national or city level competitions. I love Math because, in my view, it is the basis of business, in which field I wish to pursuit a master degree in Warton Business School. The person who led me to decide to take Math as my major is a Math Professor from Penn, …… Penn provides best program in Math and I believe that it would be a dream place for a person like me, who loves Math and wish to get success in Economics.”
