Selling on Ebay or Craig's list is a tricky situation for an F1. Briefly, F1's are not allowed to work unless you obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) from the USCIS. There are strict criteria to be met for an F1 to obtain an EAD.

Typically, if you are selling your old bed that you bought for $100 and selling for $50, if you have proof of the original purchase then there is no income and thus no employment. However, if you are buying items for resale on Ebay, that has a strong likely hood of interpretation as employment, albeit self employment.

If you open an online store then, in my opinion, you are engaging in employment which is prohibited.
